51. A Story

Congrès mondial acadien 2019

1. Nicolas Landry, history professor at the Université de Moncton, Shippagan, gave a lecture on The Life and Work of Marie-Esther Robichaud, a teacher and assistant to the Superintendent of Schools for Gloucester County from 1944 to 1954.

2. Fernand Robichaud, a proud descendant of the Robichaud family of Saint-Jean-Port-Joli, provided an entertaining look at 30 years in Acadia of the legendary Jean-Vincent d’Abbadie, third Baron of Saint-Castin, one of the most complex, unique and endearing characters in the history of Acadia.

3. Jean-Pierre Robichaud, a teacher and journalist, presented the story of the Robichaud migration from Saint-Jean-Port-Joli to the Abitibi region in Québec, in the 1930s.

4. Frank Mosher, of Halifax, is interested in family alliances among the first Acadian families. He affirms that we are not all descendants of the peasants of La Chaussée! He demonstrated, using the example of Emmaline Trahan’s Family Tree, that Acadian families may have, among other traits, obscure noble origins.

5. Armand G. Robichaud, a Shediac author, discussed Distant Origins of the Robichaud Family, by using DNA findings regarding our first Acadian ancestor, Étienne Robichaud, and asks if he was really from La Chaussée in Poitou, France.

6. Denis Savard, a genealogist and columnist for L'Acadie Nouvelle, demonstrated how a DNA Bomb has hit the Robichaud Family, and explains how a “non-parental event” has occurred early in the family history.

7. Léon Robichaud, a history professor at the Université de Sherbrooke, demonstrated the Use of Geographical Information Systems to follow the history of Robichaud ancestors and their distribution, using case studies on Cobequit and Neguac.
